Also, is responsible for report distribution. Issues laboratory results over the telephone in a professional and courteous manner. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.<br><br><strong>Other Information<br><br></strong>Required Job Qualifications:<br><br><ul><li> High School Graduate.</li><li> Typing speed over 35 wpm.</li><li> Previous experience in a hospital laboratory and/or as a phlebotomist is helpful.</li><li> Employees in this job classification are qualified to perform waived testing.</li><li> Employees' education and/or laboratory experience meet the requirements delineated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA '88).<br><br></li></ul><strong>Preferred Job Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li> Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Physical Demands<br><br></strong><ul><li> The technician's time is divided between laboratory test order entry and working in a laboratory with frequent exposure to potentially infectious specimens.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li> Enters medical record number correctly all of the time.</li><li> Handles specimens properly with no specimen labeling errors per year.</li><li> Performs accurate computer entry of demographic information.</li><li> Performs accurate computer entry of laboratory test orders.</li><li> Notifies appropriate personnel of problems.</li><li> Performs multiple computer entry/inquiry functions.</li><li> Sorts and distributes computer generated reports.</li><li> Prepares specimens correctly for delivery and/or transport.</li><li> Operates the pneumatic tube station according to division guidelines.</li><li> Performs multiple computer specimen receiving functions.</li><li> Documents specimen receipt and resolves problems if necessary.</li><li> Processes specimens.</li><li> Uses the telephone properly and gives accurate information.</li><li> Reports accurate results.</li><li> Suggests and performs follow-up where appropriate.</li><li> Volunteers or willingly participates in special projects and completes them within an agreed upon time frame.<br><br></li></ul>Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
